In every project, I like to find new and creative ways to engage the learner. With in-person learning, this includes engaging activities for them to be part of the learning process or put their new knowledge and skills to practice. For e-learning, I try to incorpate fun and interesting interactions so that the feels like they are in control of their learning experience. Below are some examples of different interactions I have developed to support online learning.
Example Project: Role differentiation
In this example, the information being taught was the same but application would look very different based on the learner’s role. Instead of creating two different modules and tracking completion for two sets of learners, this module was created to support the largest audience of both role types. At the beginning of the module, the learner selects their role and throughout the course examples that are relevant to their role type populate as appropriate.
Example Project: Gamification
In this example, the learner has to advance through a series of topics. Rather than have them click through slides, they progress through levels with each slide building on previous content and the learner is able to track their progress.
Example Project: Using Layers to Convey Information
In this example, the there is a lot of information to provide to the learner about one particular topic. The information is simple and doesn’t require much explanation - to make it engaging, I put it into a grid and require the learner to “flip” each card to learn about the topic.
